GENEVIEVE BOUFFARD
VILLAGE-BLANCHARD, NB.

  • Facebook

BIOGRAPHY

Geneviève Bouffard is a self-taught artist of Acadian and Québécois descent who has lived in the Acadian Peninsula for many years. Her paintings have been exhibited in many venues, including Moncton's Galerie de L'Assomption Vie, Radio-Canada's Galerie Georges-Goguen and Caraquet's Galerie Bernard Jean. She has also participated in the Symposium de Saint-Léonard and the Festival des arts visuels en Atlantique. She draws her inspiration from nature, especially from the tree in all its aspects, whether it's wrecked on the edge of the bay, bleached by salt water and sun, or by its endurance in the face of the harmful imprint that man sometimes places on it. An exaggeration of colour and perspective creates a hint of surrealism and evokes emotions felt in direct contact with the environment. It is with admiration and respect for nature that Geneviève creates, hoping to bring freshness and serenity.

ANNA RAIL
DIEPPE, NB.

BIOGRAPHY

I'm a visual artist from the Acadian Peninsula who has been specializing in contemporary batik for nearly twenty years.

Having a pragmatic personality, my inspirations come from the "ordinary", in the every day that often escapes us because of the routine that nonetheless amazes me daily! I've always said that you shouldn't "go looking for noon at two o'clock", whereas my surroundings nurture my creativity so well and support my passion. Bright colours, shapes and silhouettes, whether intentional or not, fill my daily life with happiness.

I discovered batik on paper by chance, even though I was already familiar with the traditional Indonesian textile technique recognized by UNESCO. What could be interpreted as a rivalry between watercolour and wax (as resists) turns into a collaborative dance at the end of the process, allowing the free wax to create its own patterns.

Japanese paper is the ideal material for this labour-intensive technique: its delicate texture and flexibility celebrate the fragility and beauty of everyday life. With their fibres, Unryu, ginwashi and kinwashi papers offer the perfect consistency, strength and flexibility to enhance my creations. Tools such as djants and kistkas contribute to the exotic personality of the technique, highlighting vivid colours, earth tones from faraway lands or memories of summers on the shores of the Gulf of St. Lawrence in Pigeon Hill.

The visual language of my representational art is personal: it suggests a whimsical journey listening to the waves or smelling the flowers in a world without borders.

ANNETTE CORMIER
QUÉBEC, Qc.

BIOGRAPHY

Annette is an Acadian painter living in Quebec. Her paintings are characterized by vibrant, saturated colours, and her pictorial language is expressed with a spontaneous, contemporary gesture. Her works of art are inspired by everyday life, her travels, her personal experiences or simply her imagination.

She has inherited her intense taste for colour from her native Acadia that poetic land between sea and wind, where the skies are breathtaking and the sea is as far as the eye can see.

Each canvas is unique and authentic, and was felt before the brush had time to touch the canvas.

AMBER LEGER
GRANDE-DIGUE, NB.

BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1971, Amber Leger comes from the Acadian community of eastern New Brunswick, where she has her home and artistic practice. She studied at the Université de Moncton in the early 1990s with Marie Ulmer, Claude Gauvin and André Lapointe. She has participated in numerous group and solo juried exhibitions in Moncton and surrounding communities, and has won numerous awards over the years. Her work can be found in private collections in Canada and the United States, as well as in the public collection of the City of Moncton.

Over the past 15 years, Amber has taught numerous art classes and workshops. In her continuing artistic growth, she pushes her boundaries and technique, currently preferring the palette knife to the brush, using larger and larger canvases and allowing simplicity to rein in her compositions. The source of her inspiration is predominantly female, whether dancers from the Dance East studio, friends or family, the connection she feels with her subjects and the imagery she draws from them is palpable, and the viewer is left inspired by her emotion and strength.

ALEXE LAPOINTE
MARIA, Qc.

BIOGRAPHY

Originally from Moncton, New Brunswick, I began my post-secondary studies at the Université de Moncton, taking a few courses in drawing and sculpture. Then, my training in landscape architecture at the Université de Montréal had a major influence on my artistic career, reinforcing my interest and concern for biodiversity: a recurring theme that naturally became an integral part of my paintings. At the end of my bachelor's degree, I settled in Gaspésie, in the Baie des Chaleurs.

My preferred mediums are acrylic and watercolour. Through painting, I study and build my library of knowledge in botany and entomology. I observe and quietly learn to recognize the specific elements of the ecosystems around me, and to notice the little subtleties that make them distinct. Then I integrate these elements into my world. It's my way of refining a form of biomimicry. Miniature and small details particularly interest me, because of the way they put our size into perspective while slowing down time.

My inspiration comes mainly from my travels and hikes in Canada's east coast. Having worked in horticulture and landscaping, plants and insects hold a special place in my imagination. What fascinates me when I'm outdoors, either working the land or hiking the many Atlantic trails, are the details in the landscapes. My paintings are like a gentle affirmation of the importance of biodiversity and its enhancement.

ROSEMONDE DUGUAY
CARAQUET, NB.

BIOGRAPHY

Originally from Brantville and a resident of Caraquet for over 30 years, I've been practising my art since I was very young! After working as a hairdresser for ten years and a nail technician for 12, I gave it all up to take up jewelry-making and painting on a more regular basis. I started painting in 1998. I took oil painting classes with a well-known Irish painter, Roisin O'Farell, and my mediums are acrylic and oil, although I also like to use multiple media on the same canvas.

My style is primarily inspired by flowers and dreamy landscapes. I like to use bright colours and, sometimes, fluidity. I also like to add plaster and sand to some of my work, or play with faux finishes too. I'm also dabbling in a more abstract style, a new passion!

I was a member of the Peintres réalistes de Tracadie-Sheila for a few years. I exhibited at La Chocolatière in 2006 and at the Marché des Fermiers in Tracadie for the annual show. My work has also been exhibited at La Ruée vers l'Art in 2010, at Le Rond Point shopping center in Tracadie and at Place Saint-Pierre in Caraquet. For several summers now, I've also been exhibiting at the Carrefour de la mer artists' warf in Caraquet. Some of my works are also currently on display at Caraquet's "Au coin des artistes".
