Trevor Murty was born in Bois-Blanc, N.B., and currently lives in Shippagan, N.B. He is a multidisciplinary artist working in the visual arts, media arts, and literary arts.
His artistic practice focuses on exploring the naive and the abstract through the use of varied and recycled materials. His practice is rooted in intuition and the imagination. He thus favors the use of diverse materials (paper collages), which he sometimes alters through fire or tearing.
The artist views his artistic practice as a space of total freedom in which chaos is a driving force for creation. He enjoys creating with whatever comes to hand, mixing materials to create raw textures and unique visual identities.
“I exist in my thoughts, I come to life in my creation, I am a presence that does not fade.” Trevor Murty
As part of the Luminous Present project, artist Trevor Murty will interpret, in his own pictorial style, the work titled Window, St. Ives, Cornwall by British painter and draftsman Christopher Wood (1901–1930), known as Kit Wood. The featured work (the starting point) for this creative project is part of the collection of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton.
