KYLA THÉRIAULT
CARAQUET, NB.
Kyla Thériault is a self-taught painter from Caraquet, N.B. A native of the region,
she returned to settle here and pursue post-secondary studies. A dedicated entrepreneur
and active member of the community, she has also been devoting herself for the past few
years to her painting practice. The beauty of our region’s maritime landscapes
is a major source of inspiration for this artist.
Kyla Thériault works from photographs she takes and then interprets them in her paintings
as simple yet memorable moments, scenes from daily life, familiar landscapes, or
shared moments.
In her paintings, she seeks to recreate those moments when time seems to slow down, inviting
for observation and contemplation. Painting then becomes a way to preserve
what the eye briefly perceives: a particular light, a vibrant color, a sensation
of calm or wonder. This artist’s work celebrates the beauty of nature—while emphasizing
the importance of taking the time to pause, look more closely, and appreciate our home.
To create her paintings, the artist primarily uses acrylic paint, a medium
that allows her to work with both spontaneity and precision of detail—she also sometimes works with
gouache and watercolor.
