GABRIELLE LAMBERT
CARAQUET, NB.
Originally from Caraquet and sensitized to visual arts since childhood, she has always been fascinated by objects and women’s fashion from the 1950s and 60s. Inspired by digital collages and artists such as Miss Me and Stikki Peaches, she began her self-taught artistic practice in collage techniques in 2022.
Her creative process involves collecting original images from both vintage and contemporary magazines, which she then cuts out and organizes by subject and color. Drawing inspiration from this image bank and before beginning the actual collage, she creates different possible scenarios, photographs them, and then proceeds to make her final composition.
The artist favors traditional collage techniques in her creative work, which bring out unique textures and highlight the originality and uniqueness of each collage and artwork she creates.
In her collages, she seeks to create an assemblage of floating images within a universe that is both strange and familiar. These often disproportionately scaled images sometimes reveal objects cleverly hidden in trompe-l’œil style, inviting the viewer to take a second look and imagine their own narrative of the artwork.
As part of the 29th edition of FAVA, she will draw inspiration from the theme of the tree as a symbol of refuge and evolution.
