

LUC A. CHARETTE
EDMUNDSTON, NB.


Born in Edmundston, NB, in 1952. B.A. (1976), B.Ed. (1978), B.A.V. (1985), University of Montreal. Certificate in Advertising Photography, School of Modern Photography (Montreal, 1974). Internship: Marketing in the Cultural Industries, Agency for Cultural and Technical Cooperation, École internationale de Bordeaux, France (1990). Graduate Diploma in Information Technology (UdeM, 1998). Master of Arts with distinction: Media Arts, Laval University (2003). In his multidisciplinary research, he explores real spaces (art installations), visual spaces (images), and virtual spaces (the Internet, social media), while examining the connections between time, duration, linguistic systems, identity, representation, and interactivity. His artistic work has earned him several grants from both the New Brunswick Arts Board and the Canada Council for the Arts. Since 1980, he has held more than 50 solo exhibitions and performances and participated in over 80 group exhibitions. He has received several awards, including: Visual Arts Artist of the Year at the Éloizes Awards (2004 & 2014), winner of the competition to create the Honorable Louis J. Robichaud Memorial (2006), finalist for the sculpture project for the Beaverbrook Art Gallery’s 50th Anniversary Sculpture Garden, and for the Strathbutler Prize (2009). Winner of the Arts Integration Competition, Edmundston, NB (2011). Finalist in the competition for an urban sculpture at Plaza Moncton (2017). Won a public art competition, Province of New Brunswick: Centre Espoir et Équilibre, Campbellton (2023). Finalist, competition for the creation of a public artwork, Edmundston (2025). Since 2011, he has devoted himself exclusively to artistic creation, working primarily in painting, digital arts, and the development of public art projects.
