KRISTEL MALLET

MONCTON, NB.

Artist Kristel Mallet has been immersed in the creative world from an early age. At the age of 12, she already wanted to draw for a living. After several years working in a variety of visual environments, she felt the need to find her calling in the art world. Silkscreen printing is a technique that has enabled her to find a means of expression that suits her fully.

It all began in Miramichi, from 2000 to 2002, where she studied Animation and Graphics Technology at CCNB. In 2005, she landed her first job in 2D animation in Halifax, where she worked until 2009 for studios whose series were broadcast on Teletoon and the BBC. She then moved to Montreal, where she discovered the world of the Web, advertising and marketing. From 2010 to 2016, she learned graphic design, motion design and video editing.

Since 2017, she has been working at Radio-Canada in Moncton, where she has been able to combine all her design and animation skills.

Her visual universe is influenced by popular culture, characters, nostalgic motifs, skulls, elements found in nature, and anything a little out of the ordinary. The artist's eclectic tastes blend well with the silkscreen technique. Her style is graphic, inspired by Pop Art, the commercial art of the 40s and 50s, and comic strips.

For this artist, it all starts with drawing, pencil sketches, fragments of drawings that she then assembles to build an image. Using an emotion, she wishes to bring out, she also uses keywords to guide her research and give direction to the whole. She then associates these elements with a certain color palette, which she uses to reinforce what she wants her work to convey.

The main technique she uses to create her work is silkscreen, which she prints on paper, wood and fabric, each surface offering new possibilities. Wood and fabric are media that she is still exploring, but which lend themselves well to manual printing and enable her to break away from traditional formats.

All her works are printed by hand, in limited editions, and sometimes reworked with hand-painted additions. Even if a visual is printed several times, each print run is slightly different.

With her work, the artist aims to create a bond with the viewer. Whether it's through an emotion, a memory, or a nod to something familiar... " I like my works to make people think, surprise or smile. My aim is for everyone to find something that resonates with them in their own way, through an encounter with my work."

Artist Kristel Mallet is devoting more and more time to her art, with the aim of making a living from it. She creates limited collections, special editions and, occasionally, mystery boxes. Her aim is simple: to connect with people through works that evoke memories, or a moment of pleasure.

Little by little, she has built a community of collectors and fans who follow her online. Her art is featured on her web store, YouTube channel, Facebook and Instagram. She also keeps in touch with her audience through her newsletter, where she shares her process, exclusives and news.
