TANIA GALLIEN
PAQUETVILLE, NB.
Originally from Paquetville, Tania Gallien began her self-taught practice as a collage artist in 2023. She explores all styles of analog collage, from surrealism to abstract art, in a creative quest that blends images from the real world with those drawn from daydreams. Her collages address themes that are deeply sad as well as philosophical, humorous, and absurd. In an effort to recycle, she primarily uses used materials such as packaging, books, magazines, and outdated encyclopedias. Her process involves scavenging for eclectic paper elements that she tears, pierces, cuts, juxtaposes, and glues. She extracts images from their usual context to give them a new story within a fresh composition. She deconstructs in order to reconstruct differently.
She allows herself, in a practice of free expression, to desacralize, decontextualize, and transfigure reality. The result is unique and unusual amalgamations aimed at revealing paradoxes and sometimes even provoking questions.
For the 29th edition of FAVA, she will address the theme "Tree of the World," drawing inspiration from quotes, song lyrics, and sayings related to trees. She will also incorporate organic materials such as dead leaves and bark fragments into her collages to explore the notion of entanglement, both metaphorically and literally.
Since 2023, Tania Gallien has been growing within the local art scene, supported in part by Quai des artistes and the Intervalles team. Her creative work is increasingly known to a wider audience through social media and her Instagram page, Massive.Cuts.Collage.
