MURIELLE CAISSIE

DIEPPE, NB.

The artist approaches painting as a practice rooted in freedom, constantly seeking self-improvement and drawing from it an energy of personal growth. Drawn to abstract art and its various movements, she finds inspiration in reading and nature, as well as in her lived experience as a woman attuned to society. In search of inner peace, she seeks to express her inner world—a realm of dreams, imagination, and the unknown. This creative journey allows her to move forward and to feel free.

Over time, her paintings have become increasingly refined, depicting nature in its most essential forms: line, shape, and color. Edges are left undefined, giving space to gesture and spontaneity. At times, she paints surreal landscapes where sea and sky seem to emerge. The elements—fire, air, water, and wind—are expressed through movement and vitality. Some viewers perceive figures, volcanoes, waterfalls, or flowers within her work.

Favoring acrylic paint, she uses a wide variety of tools—from fingers and brushes to palette knives and cloth—playing with textures and layering. The way color takes shape on the canvas guides the creation of her work. Colors blend into one another, allowing shapes to harmonize with the material. Whether the paint is applied with force or gentleness, the result reflects the freedom of her gesture. Her painting process is playful and closely aligned with the expressionist movement. She also sometimes incorporates various materials into her works to create textured effects: mortar, tissue paper, sand, cheesecloth, and more.

More recently, the artist has begun exploring spontaneous writing in her pieces in the form of letters, words, phrases, quotations, or texts, using India ink or acrylic paint. Lettering emerges as a way to convey meaning—or at times, deliberate nonsense.

Canvas by canvas, a confident and distinctive style continues to emerge. The artist is committed to abstraction, motivated by a desire to deepen her knowledge of art history, its foundations, and the vital contributions of women artists to society.

FAVA
